Reworking Heirlooms
At Ellis Mhairi Cameron, we understand the deep sentimental value that heirloom jewellery holds. But when a piece no longer suits your taste or lifestyle, it often ends up unworn; tucked away in a box, rather than being enjoyed.
Ellis specialises in reworking inherited jewellery into bold, contemporary designs that honour the past while embracing the present. Through our re-design service, your gemstones can be transformed into distinctive new pieces, crafted within Ellis’s signature aesthetic. Every commission is a personal and collaborative process; rooted in storytelling and the desire to create something meaningful.
A new chapter
Carrying stories forward
Inherited pieces often hold enormous sentimental value, but they don't always suit your lifestyle or personal style. Perhaps you've inherited a ring that isn't practical for everyday wear, or a pair of statement earrings when you'd prefer a necklace.
Reworking jewellery allows you to preserve the memories and significance of a piece while transforming it into something you'll genuinely enjoy wearing. A family brooch, for example, may be deeply meaningful but remain unworn because it doesn't reflect your aesthetic. By redesigning it into a piece you reach for every day, its story can continue to be part of your life.
Reworking jewellery can also be a wonderful way to share an heirloom between family members. A single ring can be carefully deconstructed and transformed into several unique pieces, allowing children or grandchildren to each inherit a meaningful part of its history. Rather than leaving treasured pieces unworn, reworking gives them a new life while honouring their past.
Celebrating memories
If you have inherited jewellery that you would like thoughtfully reworked, the first step is to define your brief. We encourage remodelling pieces of particular sentimental significance, creating a new jewel that honours the story of the original while ensuring it can be worn and loved for years to come.
Tailored To You
Every remodelling commission is entirely unique and pricing reflects the individuality of the materials provided and the complexity of the design proposed. As a guide, simple resetting work begins at £3,000, with most remodelling commissions ranging between £5,000 - £10,000.
Start the process
To begin, please email hello@ellismhairicameron.com with photographs and details of your jewellery, along with an outline of how you would like it to be reimagined. We can then discuss initial ideas and provide an indication of pricing before arranging a consultation.
We will then invite you to a complimentary consultation at our London studio with Ellis. During this appointment, we will explore the design possibilities for your heirloom jewellery, taking into account the gemstones available, your aesthetic preferences, lifestyle considerations and budget. Our remodelling service is available exclusively through our London studio.
For all remodelling commissions, a 50% deposit is required to commence work, payable upon acceptance of your quotation. The remaining balance is due on completion, prior to collection or shipment. Quotations remain valid for 30 days; all deposits are non-refundable. Once final details are confirmed, your piece is handcrafted in our workshop, with heirloom remodelling commissions typically taking 6-8 weeks from start to finish.
We look forward to beginning this journey with you and bringing your piece to life.
